1 ~ The Sun

The Sun is acknowledged by many cultures as the foremost masculine force. In other traditions, it is seen as the feminine in her full power. Either way, it is the most brilliant light for all beings and allows life to sprout from the dark, feminine Earth. It can be gentle and warming close to sunrise and sunset, fall or winter- or it can be destructive, as in its zenith during a scorching summer.

Have you been shining your light for too long? Remember that daylight is only one half of the day. The night must have her equal time, and she offers us her gifts as well. Be careful to not be blinded by your light or the light of others. Do not become enamored with yourself, or worship others- beware your shadow! Revel in the midday glory, but do not be afraid of the waning of the light at dusk.

2 ~ Holy Mountain

Native people around the Earth recognize mountains as places of great power where one encounters Spirit or where Gods or Goddesses reside. In Ancient Greece, Mount Olympus was the home of the 12 main Gods and Goddesses. In Tibet, pilgrims circumambulate Mount Kailash to bring prosperity. In Peru, pilgrims climb the ice-capped Mount Ausangate to receive the starlit and bring fire to the Earth.

The Holy Mountain invites you to go on a sacred pilgrimage to acquire vision and perspective. First you must accept the present situation as an opportunity to discover higher understanding. Find a sacred altar where other who have came before you have prayers and found wisdom, and make your offering there. Make a commitment to walk with courage, love, and compassion until you see with clarity the passion of it all.

3 ~ The Andean Cross

The Andean cross represents the cosmology of the shaman. It depicts the four cardinal directions, the upper and lower worlds, and the steps to reach these realms. The hole in the center is a gateway to inter dimensional travel, the proverbial eye of the needle we can all go through to experience higher states of awareness and wisdom and to break free of linear time.

The time has passed and the window of opportunity has closed. Now is not the moment to take that leap that you have been over-preparing for. It is best to wait until conditions in the heaven line up again to offer you a more propitious moment. Any bold action you take now will require tremendous effort on your part. Just as important as knowing when to act is knowing when to return to your inner stillness and wait for more favorable times.

4 ~ The Circle

Unification, interconnectedness, and a sense of continuum is what this card implies. The Circle reminds us that we are all One— dancers in a unified continuous inclusive circle. This card reminds us of the cycles of life and the evolving self, ever changing, and always connected: human, Spirit, Nature, the cosmos, all intrinsically connected.

When the circle comes as your medicine, you’re meant to come to an understanding of the importance of decay and letting go, the importance of dying to an old form and being reborn anew. If you are faced with the challenge of loss or disappointment, remember this: in the Circle of Life, nothing is ever wasted. Love will seek itself again, prosperity will come from a new idea or opportunity, and Spirit always waits for you to find your place in the dance again.

5 ~ Many Paths

All paths lead to Spirit. What you bring to your journey is what will determine if yours is a path of suffering, a path of wisdom, a path of bliss, or a path of loss.

You have outgrown your current situation and risk losing your way in your own backyard. You are being called to step out of your comfort zone. Respond now, while the call is still a gentle whisper. Even though the woods look thick and impenetrable, venture in and let nature guide your steps through the dark until you reach your destination. Remember, if you do not know where you are going, any path will take you there.

6 ~ The Tree of Life

The Tree of Life is a sacred symbol. Its deep roots reach into the lower world, the unconscious, while its branches reach to the heavens, the source of destiny. To be whole in your life’s journey, it is important to have deep roots and high branches. A tall tree with shallow roots falls in the first wind, but a tree with deep roots can weather any storm.

What nutrients do you need to add to your soil to grow strong? The seed of the oak will not grow on barren ground or without the light of the sun. What dreams do you want to awaken to create a mindful destiny? Reflect on how you want to blossom, the kind of fruit you want to produce, and where you want to sow your new seeds. Be a conscious creator!

7 ~ Talking Stick

Speak your truth. The soul loves truth: Communicate from your heart, and share your reality without hesitation. Be willing to stand before the crowd and share from your center. This isn’t the time to be shy and hesitant; it’s time to heal through communication. You have the gift of a true leader, through the way you communicate with others.

During tribal council meetings, a decorated stick, called a “talking stick,” would be passed around. As each council member held the stick, he or she had the opportunity to speak from the heart. Each person in attendance would be asked to weigh carefully the words of each speaker. The talking stick reminded each person to be authentic. Communication restores trust and allows you to clarify your ideas, position, and feelings. It can be healing when you share what has been withheld. Now is the time to take a risk and have the courage to speak with clarity. Be forthright. Share any unspoken darkness that lays heavy in the heart. There are times to hold back and be discerning, but this isn’t one of them. Even if you’re afraid, declare your truth for all to hear without fear of being rejected or misunderstood. When you do this, transformation and healing can occur.

Decorate a stick (or a feather) to use a your patronage talking stick. Whenever you hold it, let it be a sacred reminder to seek the truth within. Take a minute every day to take stock of where you are and to ask yourself about “what is so” in your life. Simply taking a moment to discover your inner truth can have a profound healing effect on your life.

8 ~ Circle of Life

All things are possible. Stand in your center and be open. The Four Winds are bringing your dreams to fruition. Embrace and accept where you are in the great circle of life. Bounty and abundance are flowing to you. If you’ve had relationship or financial challenges, things are about to change.

The circle of life (called “the medicine wheel” in Native American traditions) symbolizes a cosmology that honors all the circles of life. Those in Western cultures tend to see life as linear; however those in indigenous cultures see all life as a circle. When this card chooses you, it’s time to honor and cherish all aspects of the great circle. All parts of the journey have beauty and grace. There’s beauty in the rising sun, just as there is in the setting sun. To only revel in the rising sun (and demean times of endings) depletes your energy. Choose what is. . . and you become master of the Universe (or at least of your own personal universe).

Create a medicine wheel for yourself. It can be as simple as creating a circle of stones or pinecones that you lay outdoors. As you place each part of the circle, hold the intent that you’re honoring all aspects of your life.

9 ~ Walking in Beauty

Radiant beauty surrounds you. You’re beautiful, inside and out. No matter what your age, your grace is growing. Being in balance. As you walk in beauty and feel gratitude for it, your life will be filled with immense splendor. Whenever you can, spend time in natural, wild spaces. As you see and hear and feel beauty around you, your own beauty will grow.

In Native American traditions, there’s the concept of walking in beauty. It’s called “hozho naasha” in the Navajo/Dineh tradition, and it means being in balance with a natural way of life. When we are in the “right relationship” with the natural world around us, we are walking in beauty. The more you sense and see beauty around you— in your environment, yourself, and your body— the more it will fill your life, in all forms. Never say anything about yourself or your body that’s negative. Don’t put down yourself or others. Instead, affirm beauty and take time to adorn your body and personal space. Walk in nature and inhale the beauty of every part of our wonderful planet. Cherish yourself and the luminescence within you, and you will glow.

Create outer harmony in your home environment, even in small ways— such as a vase of flowers, scented candle, or clean windows— and your inner grace and radiance will begin to shine even more brightly. Wherever you go, look for beauty in your surroundings, and as a result, the world will become more beautiful.

10 ~ Warrior of the Heart

You have the radiant spirit of a warrior of the light. Be impeccable in all of your actions. No matter what others believe, the creator always knows the truth. The isn’t a time to be timid and pull back. Immense courage is filling you. Throw your shoulders back, step forward and take a risk! Be willing to live life from your heart rather than your mind. Honor your truth. Speak up for yourself.

The greatest native warriors weren’t the ones who wounded the most people; they were those remarkable beings who had such personal power that enemies lay down their weapons rather than fight. There are times in life to step back and even times to walk away, but there are also times to stand up for yourself and those less advantaged. Don’t allow yourself to be limited by your belief system. Courage doesn’t mean that you aren’t afraid. Fearless means just that: Fear less. Acknowledge that you’re frightened, and take action anyway! Fave your anxiety and go beyond the boundaries of limited perceptions of yourself. Through your example, people find and act on their truth. You’re a light bearer for others.

List everything that you’re afraid of. Then next to that list, write every reason why it’s important to overcome that fear. (In other words what does that fear cost you?) Then make a list of the various ways you can overcome that fear.

11 ~ Nature Spirits

Delight. Peaks of carefree abandon. Living wildly, magically, and free. Be open to the wonders of the universe flooding into your life. Innocence and delight are abounding. Happiness is on its way!

Almost every indigenous culture recounts stories of fairies, (often called “little people”) and nature spirits. Although some of the fairies act in protection of their wild lands and should be treated with care and respect, most often they bring blessings and delight to all in their realm. If this Nature Spirits card chooses you, then welcome to a wellspring of joy and magic. Beneath the surface, mystical interventions are occurring in your life. Relax. All is well.

Even taking a few moments of stillness in the natural world can help you attune to the world of the little people and nature spirits. If you see a small flash of light or a movement of a leaf on a windless day, these are often signs that the wee folk are near.

12 ~ Crystals ~Focus~

It is time to bring your complete focus to the subject of your inquiry. Eliminate all distractions, and give this your undivided attention. Whether this is project, relationship, or simply a relaxing time spent walking in Nature, be fully present to the situation. This sharpening of focus will expand your awareness and allow your inner guidance to penetrate your consciousness, which can be parlayed into appropriate action. By being focused with crystal clarity, you are in the flow of your life force and, in fact, have become one with it. It is not a hypervigilant or tension-filled state, but one of relaxed attention. Keep your eyes, ears, and heart focused on that which you need to pay attention, and miracles can be created. To paraphrase a fictional elder, “Use the Force,” and use it in life enhancing ways.

13 ~ Winter Solstice ~Reflection~

Review the past year and ask yourself what the most important lessons you have had to learn are, what you have accomplished, and what dreams and visions you want to manifest in the upcoming year. Whether it has been a relatively smooth ride or a challenging series of events, acknowledge your experience as being the work of Source, no matter what your judgements, fears, or joys are. Honor whatever has happened over the previous several months with gratitude as forgiveness. Then let it go. Allow yourself some solitude so you can spend some quiet, slow time in reflection. Once you feel complete, reflect on your present life, especially focusing on what you are grateful for. When you are finished, consider what is to come— all the different possibilities and potential that exist before you. Allow your imagination to roam without limitation or ambition, and see what shows up. Notice how you feel in your body with whatever scenario plays out in your mind. These are previews of that which is gestating, and can manifest and grow when cared for properly. Patience and stillness is called for her, for just as the Earth cycle have their own pace, so does this cycle.

14 ~ Desert ~Vision Quest~

A “vision quest” is a process whereby you spend a few days in the wilderness alone. Typically, you carry only water and some sacred items with you, and you spend most of the time praying or meditating. Many who have completed a vision quest assert that it is a powerful and even life-changing experience, and report vivid and profound revaluations. It is said that “the desert does not lie,” so partaking in this can help you discover the truth about your purpose, or at least give you some clues. It is time for you to go on a Vision quest. Designate a place in nature in which to dwell, whether for a couple of hours or a few days. Spend the majority of your time while there meditating and praying. It is best to be in a location where you can truly find solitude, even if it is in a quiet corner of a park for the afternoon. This is one of the more powerful cards. When it comes to you, whatever other messages you may have received are amplified threefold.

15 ~ River ~Movement~

Fighting or blocking the flow of your Life Force can lead you to feeling spiritually void and disconnected from Source. Just like the metaphor of river, it does not work to force or fight this compelling movement. When you simply pay attention and observe the flow, it becomes easier to navigate your experiences and see what lies ahead, or at least get a sense of what is to come by the ever-changing geography that unfolds as you cruise along. Your resistance is hampering your ability to make a choice in this matter. Surrender to the movement of Life, be grateful, and you will see the signs along the shore and in the river itself that will offer you clues about what directions your egoless Self is to be making. “Go with the flow” is more than a trite aphorism here. It is essential that you do so now. Breathe, relax, and you will know.
